Coins for Change
This is a poem written for my grandfather (he’s really big on collecting change)
From ocean to ocean,
From border to border,
We will raise a commotion,
With our pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters!
This here world is full of injustice and pain,
We the people suffer as prices skyrocket,
All for the government and corporations gain,
The means to make a difference lies in your pocket!
Although this world is unfair,
With our spare pennies and dimes,
We can change the world! Do not despair!
With coins we’ll get through these hard times!
My sister, my brother,
My father, my mother,
My grandfather, my grandmother,
My good friend, my lover,
And to all those around the earth,
Struggling to make ends meet,
To a movement we will give birth,
The solution lies at your feet!
So pick up that dime,
And save it in a jar,
It is an era for change; now is the time,
With every coin saved up a better future is not as far.

This World
This World
In this world things are all going astray,
People are forced to leave there homes when they wish to stay,
Kids get shot on their streets and watch as their short lives flash by,
All over the world emotions are running high,
With all this meaningless fighting in other countries going on,
We aren’t paying attention to things in our own backyard that are going wrong,
People getting married and divorced in the blink of an eye,
Parents abandoning their children and leaving them to die,
Hatred, pain, and sadness plaguing us all like a curse,
Is it even possible that things could get worse?
People thieving and deceiving is there really no end?
Is there someone out there with a hand they can lend?
Please pull us out of this dark pit that we’ve dug,
Embrace us with feelings all warm and snug,
Lead us back to the path that we seem to have lost,
The path of love, justice, honesty and integrity that we must find no matter the cost.
